Route of the Castles
One of the most suggestive itineraries that the visitor can find in the lands of Lleida is, precisely, the Route of the Castles. It is a route trough very well preserved fortresses that take the visitor to the middle age, an epoch when these lands were the frontier between the Arab and the Christian worlds.
The classic route of the castles of Lleida includes five fortresses:
- Montsonís, La Noguera;
- Montclar, el Urgell,
- Florejacs and Pallargues in La Segarra,
- and Mur in Pallars Jussà.
To these constructions, the castle of Vicfred has been recently added, also in La Segarra, that recreates a great seignorial mansión of the XVIII and XIX centuries.Finally, the medieval castle of Verdú, in Urgell, can also be visited, calling previously to the city council of the town.
